Four Pedigrees published on the MyHeritage platform claim that Elspot Bruce, here treated, is the daughter of James Bruce and Euffame Anderson. One of them claims that she was the daughter of James Bruce of Powfouls and Euffame Anderson. MyHeritage It is a fact, however, that there is no record of a marriage between James Bruce and Euffame Anderson, or between James Bruce of Powfouls and Euffame Anderson. A lady named Euffame Anderson was the mother of a child named William Bruce, but he was the bastard son of Master James Bruce in Dysart. His mother and father were not married. William Bruce was born before 27 May 1594, the date upon which his baptism was registered at Dysart in Fife, Scotland. It is difficult to read the entire baptismal record, but it opens as follows: "The xxvij day of May 1594. That William Bruce unlawful sone to Maisr James Bruce In Dysart begotten in fornication wt Euffame Andersone [ baptised ] tht day ….. ."
