About Emed Ismil

Emed Ismil was born on July 25, 1892 in Syria. He attended school and grew to manhood in Syria; and in 1914 came to the United States, settling in Huss Township of Roseau County, MN near Strathcona. In 1925, Emed became a US Citizen. On Feb 7, 1939, he was united in marriage to Signe Peterson at Karlstad, MN. After their marriage, the couple began farming in Huss Township where they made their home until their retirement in 1965. They then moved to Princeton, MN where they lived until 1968 when they moved to Cambridge, MN. For the past 6 months, Emed had been a resident of the Anoke Nursing Home at Anoka, MN. He passed away at the nursing home on Sunday afternoon, May 11, at the age of 75 years, 9 months and 15 days. He is survived by his wife, Signe; 3 sons: Alex of Mpls, Raymond of St. Paul; and Joseph of Cloquet, MN; 1 daughter, Mrs. Everett (Marie) Poling of Mpls; 3 brothers and 2 sisters, all in Syria; 4 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 daughter and 1 brother.

Funeral services were held at 2:00pm on Thursday, May 15 (1969) at the Faith Lutheran Church, near Badger, with Rev. Arthur Larson officiating. Internment was in the Klondike Cemetery, near Badger. Pallbearers were Marshall Wiskow, Curtis Wiskow, Melroy Wiskow, Wallace Hanson, Andrew Evala, and Cordell Wiskow. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Gjovik sang, "I Need Thee Every Hour" and "What a Day That Will Be". Mrs. Roy Gjovik also served as organist.
