Emma "Lou" Miller

WOOSTER -- Erma "Lou" Sommer, age 86, of Wooster, formerly of Apple Creek, died Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at Glendora Health Care Center in Wooster, following a period of declining health.

Lou was born on Oct. 26, 1929, in Tuscarawas County to the late Moses and Helen (Shoppe) Miller and graduated from Beech City High School, Class of 1947. She married Norman W. "Speedy" Sommer on Oct. 2, 1948, at Kidron Mennonite Church. Norman died on August 26, 2000.

She previously worked as a secretary for Orrville Mennonite Church, and then for Professional Micrographic in Lakeland, Fla. for 20 years until retirement.

Lou was a member and former youth leader at Orrville Mennonite Church and was currently attending Grace Church in Wooster. She was a former president of the Orrville Athletic Booster Club and former co-president with her husband of the Orrville Band Parents Club. She enjoyed activities with her family including mixed league bowling with her husband, and hosting ice skating at the family farm.

Surviving are her son, Ron (Diane) Sommer of Kidron; daughter, Connie Davis of Wooster; daughter-in-law, Judy Sommer of Mishawaka, Ind.; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Sommer; son-in-law, Donald Davis; and sisters Agnes Miller, Imogene Rozier, Alice Zuercher and Mary Zuercher.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2016, at Auble Funeral Home, 512 East Oak Street, Orrville, with Pastor Bob Mitchell officiating. Burial of ashes will follow at Kidron Mennonite Church Cemetery.
