  1. Note:
In the 1900 US Census, Emma and J.J. Ossler were living in Kane, McKean County, PA with 3 of their surviving children, Catherine E, Albert A, and Richard V. It is recorded that Emma had 7 births with 3 surviving children. This was probably reported by Emma, so it should be accurate. This was before the birth of Wendell Paul in September 1900, and seems to conflict with the records found, which include newspaper accounts of the death of some of the children in the early 1890's from diphthereria. One of the unnamed children I have listed must be in error.

According to Jane Lloyd, her mother in law, Catherine E. Ossler Lloyd, was concerned about dying in childbirth at age 38 because she believed that her own mother, Emma, had died as a result of childbirth in 1902 at age 38. I have no proof of this being the case. A notice in the Vandergrift paper of that time lists a cause of death. Three days after the death of Emma, her son Wendell Paul was baptized in St. Gertrude Church in Vandergrift, Westmoreland County, PA. This was the same day that Emma was buried at St. Gertrude Cemetery.
From her tombstone at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Vandergrift, Westmoreland County, PA, this inscription:
"Our Mother"
"Emma J."
"Wife of J.J. Ossler"
"April 22, 1864"
"May 16, 1902".
