Engela Stadler

According to a newspaper cut, Ellen was 1 of 12 children, and daughter of John George Stadler, whom worked on the Railways (S.A.R.), Cape Town. His brothers worked at the Limeburners owned by his fathers family. She married William Gladwin, a full bachelor, and clerk by profession, on 06 November 1902 in St Luke's Church in the parish of Salt River. Witness at her wedding are : George Cawcutt and Gertrude Martha Doveton, her married sister. Page 210, marriage no 411. Her name on the Marriage Certificate is " Ellen Christina Georgina Stadler. On a DOOP SEEL issued 22 August 1935, the same no 133251 is ink stamped to the document, dated 22 August 1935... Possibly a Death Notice reference no. Her name here, refering to a baptism notice 18 May 1873. Her name her is recorded as : Engela Gesina Christina Stadler, Daughter of Johannes George Stadler, and Anna Rachelinna Verwey.

She had 2 children, and moved with her husband, Albert Waterer Gladwin, a bookkeeper, to Kimberley in Cape Province, South Africa. According to Doop Seel of the N.G.Kerk: 133251, dated 22/August 1935, and issued in KAAPSTAD, Engela Gezina Christina Stadler was born on 15 April 1873. According to D/N 188 Of Albert Waterer Gladwin dated 28/12/1905, his surviving spouse is listed as Ellen Christina Georgina Gladwin, ne' Stadler. His/Her surviving children are listed as Albert George Gladwin, and Beatrice Minnie Gladwin.

Ellen Gladwin is buried at the Maitland street cemetery, plot no 14482 block A with her daughter Beatrice, who was buried here on 07 February 1910. Ellen is buried here on 20 August 1944.- Burial card.
