Hopestill BENT (Peter2, John1), of Sudbury, married Nov. 27, 1701, Elizabeth, daughter of Thomas Brown of Sudbury, and died Aug, 18, 1725, aged 53. He saw service in the disastrous Canadian Campaign of 1690, in the first of the French and Indian wars, and on his tombstone in the old burial ground in what is now the town of Wayland is called an ensign. He received a grant of land that is now the town of Bethel, Maine. He as a tavern keeper and also had a good orchard of apple trees where forty three barrels of cider were found that suggests he sold cider for for a living.
