Ephraim Ashley Miller and Marion Hollinshead were married about 1916, probably in Southern California. The family spent some time in Southern California, and some in Oregon. According to family records, their first son, Robert A. Miller, was probably born in California in Mar 1917, but died 29 Oct 1917 at age 7 months in Hood River, Oregon. When Ephraim registered for the World War I draft, the family was living in Portland, Oregon with their 3 month old baby. Robert was buried 31 Oct 1917 in the Idlewilde Cemetery, Hood River, Oregon.

Ephraim and Marian moved to Southern California, where their next three sons were born. Ashley E. Miller, or Ned, was born 5 Oct 1918 in Los Angeles County. In 1920, the family was living in Placentia, Orange County. Their son John Earl Miller was born 27 Jul 1920 in Fullerton, and son Lawrence Noble Miller 5 Nov 1922 in Placentia. Ned died young while the family was living in California.

Ephraim and Marion, with sons John and Lawrence, moved to Seattle, Washington, where they are found living in 1930. Kenneth Q. Miller was born 9 Oct 1930 in Seattle. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Oregon, where Donald Lee Miller was born 9 Jan 1932 in Hood River, and where Marion finally gave birth to a daughter. In 1940, the family was living in Odell, Oregon, just south of Hood River. Ephraim died 19 Mar 1957 in Portland, Oregon, and was buried in the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. Marion died 13 Oct 1976 in Hood River, Oregon and was buried in the Willamette National Cemetery next to her husband.

Ephraim Ashley Miller was born 8 Dec 1888 in Monkland*, Sherman County, Oregon. His parents were John Ivan Miller and Hannah Badger. He was the fifth of eight children. In 1900, the family was living in South Hood River, Wasco County, Oregon. His father was a farmer, and a sister and a brother had already died young. In 1910, the family was still farming, and Ephraim was listed as a farmer, farming at home.

According to family sources, Ephraim married Cora M. Carter in 1910 in Hood River, Hood River, Oregon. They had a son, Robert Marvin Miller, born 28 Apr 1911 in Hood River. Cora died 15 May 1911, at the age of 19 years, and is buried in the Idlewilde Cemetery, Hood River, Oregon. Their son went to live with his maternal grandparents.

Ephraim married Marion Hollinshead about 1916, perhaps in Southern California. The family spent some time in Southern California, and some in Oregon. According to family records, their first son, Robert A. Miller, was probably born in California in Mar 1917, but died 29 Oct 1917 at age 7 months in Hood River, Oregon. When Ephraim registered for the World War I draft on 5 Jun 1917, the family was living at 192½ Grand Avenue, Portland, Oregon. He was a resawyer for the Jones Lumber Company in Portland. He was described as being of medium height, medium build, with blue eyes and brown hair. He was totally deaf in one ear. He served in the US Army as a Private, entering the service on 6 Jul 1918.

Ephraim and Marian moved to Southern California. It is not known if Ephraim was still in the military service. Their son Ashley or Ned, was born 5 Oct 1918 in Los Angeles County. In 1920, the family was living on Chapman Avenue in Placentia in Orange County. Ephraim was a laborer on a citrus farm. Their son John was born 27 Jul 1920 in Fullerton, and son Lawrence 5 Nov 1922 in Placentia. Ned died young while the family was living in California.

Ephraim and Marion, with sons John and Lawrence, moved to Seattle, Washington. In 1930, they were living at 4450 Kenyon Place, Seattle. Ephraim was a pipefitter for the steamship industry. He was 53 years old, and listed his employer as Forrest Moe, working in Odell. *Ephraim listed his birthpace as Moro, Sherman County, not Monkland. The two small communities are 6 miles apart on Highway 97.

Ephraim died 19 Mar 1957 in Portland, Oregon, and was buried in the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. His wife Marion died 13 Oct 1976 in Hood River, Oregon, and was buried next to her husband.
