A Patriot of the American Revolution for MASSACHUSETTS with the rank of CORPORAL. DAR Ancestor # A010580

Ephraim Bixby, twin to Martha Bixby, the son of Samuel Bixbe and Mary Bixby, was born 11 April 1754 at Lancaster, Massachusetts. [Lancaster B/R] This part of Lancaster is now Boylston.

Ephraim Bixby, Shrewsbury, Private, Capt. Robert Andrews's co., which marched on the alarm of April 19, 1775, from Shrewsbury (2d Parish) to Cambridge; service, 9 days; reported enlisted into the army;also, Corporal, Capt. Job Cusing's co., col. Jonathan Ward's regt.; muster roll dates Daug. 1, 1775; enlisted April 28, 1775; service, 3 mos. 11 days; also, company return dated Dorchester, Oct. 7, 1775; also, order for bounty coat or its equivalent in money dates Dorcester, Nov. 13, 1775. [Massachusetts Soliders and Sailors in the Revolutionary War, Vol 2 pg 88]

Married first Phoebe Wilder of Leominster in 1775, then Susannah Wood in 1783. He left Boylston for Guilford, Vermont in 1777 and later moved to Bainridge, New York where he died.

Revolutionary War Pensioners of 1818 in Vermont had Ephraim Bixby, Private, original commencement of pension 6th Dec. --, $4 pension per month, $48 pension per annum. [Vermont Revolutionary Pensioners of 1818, pg 29, no. 114]

Ephraim Bixby, referred to as "Ebenezer (Ephraim) Bixby", was interred in the Old Burial Ground in Boylston, but there is no grave marker. (source: The Boylston Historical Commission and William Dupuis, 1975}
