About Eric Östman
LYNDHURST; Eric J. Ostman, 19, of 229 Second Ave., who as a passenger was injured in an automobile accident on Jan. 25 of last year, died yesterday in Manchester House, Media, Pa., where he was undergoing neurological treatment. He had been born on the birthday of his mother, Mrs. Erna Arnio Ostman, Oct. 19, and died on the birthday of his brother, Roy. The accident occurred in Rutherford. The youth was unconscious for five months and in a wake coma until his death. He was in Bergen Pines Hospital, Paramus until Jan. 26 when he was taken to the Pennsylvania neurological center.. Born in Brooklyn, N. Y., he came to Lyndhurst with his parents and brother in 1956 and was graduated from the local high school in 1965. He was preparing to enter electronics school when the accident occurred. He had been active in Scouting and attended a Boy Scout camp in Connecticut where his uncle, Arne Arnio, is a commissioner of scouting. He was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Besides his mother and his brother, Roy, who had been a Presidential Navy honor guard after President John F. Kennedy was assassinated, he is survived by his father, Emil, active on the 50th anniversary of Lyndhurst Committee. A funeral service will be held tomorrow.
