Erik Nilsson Eira was born in Peltojärvi, Enontekiö and died in Kautokeino. He was the father of Nils Eriksson Eira and Per Eriksson Päiviö (Eira). Eira was a common surname in Peltojärvi and some of Erik Nilsson Eira's descendants took the name Beldovuobme which is the Saami word for Peltojärvi. According to Fors & Strömstad in Slekter fra Indre Finnmark, several members of the Eira family stayed in both Peltojärvi and in Kautokeino during their lifetime. This can be seen based on the movements in the church records and also seen in court records.

According to Paavo Riihitammela in Hanhivaara, Eira, Raudus ja..., the oldest records of the Eira family have been found by Niilo Tervo. According to Tervo's research the Eira family starts from the the Inari Lapp named Aikasarria Kuffianpoika who is found in Inari already in 1575-1579. Aikasarria Kuffianpoika had been escaping taxes for about two years, by going to Russia. In the "tax records" from Peltojärvi Lapp village he emerges in 1583-1594. Aikasarria had a son called Nils Aikasarriasson (Aikasarrianpoika) who can be found in the "tax records" of Peltojärvi Lapp village during 1605-1620. This was the time of "renting out taxes" and the records were not always preserved. Nils Aikasarriasson had a son called Erik Nilsson who can be found in the "tax records" from Peltojärvi Lapp village during 1637-1669. From 1643 Peltojärvi Lapp village is under Torneå Lappmark and can be found in the tax records of Torne Lappmark (with exception of the following periods of which the records are lost: 1648, 1650-1654, 1660-1668).

Based on old records and old maps, and based on oral tradition among people living in Peltojärvi/Peltovuoma, one can conclude that the old Peltojärvi Lapp village was situated on the shore of Peltojärvi. The village belonged to Kemi Lappmark in the 16th century Lapp village division. The most important livelihoods for the people of Peltojärvi Lapp village was wild reindeer hunting and fishing. They used pitfall trapping systems and also other forms of traps. In 1563 there were 5 persons paying tax in Peltojärvi Lapp village. They were: Lauri Inganpoika, Antti Ollinpoika, Olli Niilonpoika, Antti Kunnarinpoika and Pekka Niilonpoika. The Lapp tax they paid with dried pike (fish) and squirrel skins. In 1581, the Lapps of Peltojärvi Lapp village complained that the settlers of Torne Matarengi was hunting beaver and were fishing in their lakes. King Kaarle IX informed that Peltojärvi Lapp village was also complaining together with other Lapp villages that the "bikarls" (tradesmen) and some settlers were doing them harm and also trespassing on their fishing lakes. Based on this, he issued a letter to the Lapp people, stating his protection of their rights.

One of the oldest mentioning of Peltojärvi Lapp village is from 1471 when Moscow vanquished Novgorod, and on account of this the Lapp villages by Enontekiös Peltojärvi were ordered to pay taxes to Moscow.
