OBITUARY OF ERNEST GEORGE SHEARER

HUDSON -- Hurled into a field y the impact of a speeding PennsylvaniaRailroad locomotive near here Tuesday afternoon, a Polsky delivery vanwas demolished and the driver's helper seriously injured. The accidentoccurred at the intersection of the Pennsylvania tracks and theStow-Aurora road, about two miles southeast of Hudson. Running about two and a half hours late, the train, No. 367 fromPittsburgh, passed Brady Lake at approximately 2:04 P. M. and collidedwith the van about 7 or 8 minutes later. C.E. Smith and Paul Marooush, who live about 200 feet south of thetracks, saw the crash through the windows of a tool shed in which theywere working. The injured man, Ernest shearer of Akron, was rushed to St. ThomasHospital in Akron by Bissler's ambulance from Kent. The driver, reportedto be Frank Dixon, also of Akron, was believed to be unhurt. The truckwas hit just ahead of its rear wheels, and was thrown about 50 feet.Wreckage was strewn along the right-of-way for 100 feet more. Otherwitnesses of the accident..........

TRAIN - TRUCK CRASH FATAL TO WINAMAC MAN

Funeral Here Monday for Ernest Shearer, Farally Hurt in Ohio

Ernest G. Shearer Sr. of Winamac died Thursday night of last week atSt. Thomas' hospital in Akron, Ohio, as the result of injuries receivedon the preceding Tuesday when the truck in which he was riding wasstruck by a Pennsylvania fast passenger train at a crossing west ofAkron. He suffered fractures of the skull, left leg and right ankle, andmultiple cuts. Francis J. Dixon of Akron, driver of the truck, escaped with minorinjuries. The truck was demolished. Both men were employed by thePolsky company, Mr. Shearer had worked for five years. Mrs. Shearer and son Ernest Jr. left for Akron upon being notified ofthe accident and remained to accompany the body home on Sunday. TheShearers resided in Akron until four years ago when they moved toWinamac, Mrs. Sheare's girlhood home. She is the former Miss MarthaSmith, sister of Mrs. Edward Ewing and Vincent Smith. Veteran of World War 1 A native of Akron, Mr. Shearer would have been fifty years of age hadhe lived until march 24. He was a veteran of World War 1, a member ofthe V.F.W., American Legion, and the Eagle lodge. He continued to workin Akron after the family moved here, and was a former member of theAkron police department. Surviving, besides his wife and son Ernest Jr., are daughters, Mrs.Helen Allen, Joan and Donna; grandson Robert; sisters, Mrs. Helen Palmerof Stow, Ohio, and Mrs. Frances Luman of Berkley Springs, W. Va.;brothers, Curtis of Ravenna, Ohio, Clarence and Robert of Akron. Funeral services were held Monday at the Kennedy funeral home here, incharge of the Rev. Jerome C. Walski of Kewanna, and the Veterans ofForeign Wars. Burial was in St. Peter's cemetery. Rites were held bythe Eagles Saturday evening at a funeral home in Akron.
