- He was a famous Zoologist. In 1913/14 he was on a research expedition. On his return to Germany in 1913/14, the passenger ship with which he was traveling from Brazil to Europe was raided by the British Navy and Ernst was arrested / interned. He owed his early release only to his medical doctorate. Returned, he was immediately drafted into the medical corps. After the German defeat, Alsace was rejoined to France and Bresslau refused to return to Strasbourg. His father, Harry Bresslau, was classified by the French as a "Panamanian militant" and expelled from Alsace. On the other hand Ernst Bresslaus wife and his children did not receive an exit permit to Germany. See Wikipedia. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernst_Bresslau
