About Esther Nye
The Nye Genealogy and American Nyes state, without explanation or elaboration, that Esther's maiden name was Shed. This may well be true since the Nye Genealogy was able to draw upon sources that are now unknown or lost. However, no primary or independent secondary source is known that substantiates her surname. Moreover, Esther does not appear in the genealogy of the immigrant Daniel Shed of Braintree and later Billerica, Massachusetts, and her connection to him, the only man of that surname in New England at the time of her birth, cannot be proven or even plausibly suggested. The wills of John and Esther mention ten children by name, with the first seven recorded in Sandwich vital records. - Origins of Benjamin Nye, pg 22-23
