She was born on 18 January 1872 in Shanghai, China, and her father, Francis Blackwell Forbes, was born in New York.
She had resided in China from 1872 to 1878.

For her current journey [accompanied by her mother Isabel] she planned to visit the British Isles, France, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, and Spain, by departing from the Port of New York aboard the ship Orbita on 22 September 1923.
She was 51 years old; was 5-feet, 3½-inches tall. had a how forehead, hazel eyes, a straight nose and mouth, brown-gray hair, an oval face, and a medium complexion.
