About Etta Coulter

Etta Sternberg Coulter was the daughter of Carrie Berwin Sternberg.

Etta was recorded in the city directory of Blytheville, Arkansas in 1987 as Etta Coulter. She also records in the Social Security Death Index and several US Federal Census takings.

Carrie Berwin Sternberg (1869 St. Louis->1913)

Carrie was the daughter of Dora Block Schwartzkopf Berwin and Samuel Berwin. She married Mr. Simon Sternberg. She was mentioned in the death notice of both Samuel Berwin and Dora Schwartzkopf Berwin in 1913. One of her children was Etta Sternberg who married Jacobus and who lived in Shawnee Oklahoma at one point.

I had read her name as Carni in my first investigations of the family.

She is part of the extended family of Berwin, Block, Schwartzkopf, Wedeles, Marx and Brockman of St. Louis, MO USA.

Possibly Jacob in Ward 24. Census 1900 was part of this family.

A Simon Sternberg was buried in New Mount Sinai in St. Louis on February 26, 1916 in grave number 1616. His age was recorded as 50, making a birth year of 1866. His birthplace was recorded as Germany. An obituary is in the St. Louis Post Dispatch of February 27 on page p 1 B.

Note: An old posting on Ancestry.com came to my attention recently that refers to the Sternberg family of St. Louis. The posting is from 2002 and comes from an email from bsherzig@yahoo.com

The posting refers to "Sternberg's in St. Louis-Late 1800's and or Early 1900's" and the query is as follows: "Is anyone related to a Sternberg that once owned or part owned some kind of "Hat" Company or Factory in St. Louis called "Baer Sternberg Cohen". I am not sure this is the exact phrase used." Baer, Sternberg and Cohen were millners in St. Louis in the late 1800's and early 1900's. There was also an advertising company by that name, and a law firm.

My grandfather was a Jacobus, that is what my Mother's maiden name is. My Grandmother, Etta Sternberg was born in St. Louis, and all I know was that she married a Jacobus and at one point lived in Shawnee, Okalahoma where my Mother was born. And I am not quite sure where they met, but I do know or am pretty sure they lived in Blytheville, Arkansas when my mother was still very young, then I am told they divorced. Does anyone know about this?

These were the postings on Ancestry from bsherzig.
