<references />* 1900-1940 Census, Naturalization papers, Find a Grave, Texas death certificate, persona information Author: Chris Sprangers Etta Jansen was christened as a baby in Germany; and when she was 4 years old, she came to the US with her parents and Aunt Annie Jansen Behrens, Uncle Willie Jansen and a great Uncle Herman Mayerhoff. They left their homeland from Bramen, Germany September 10, 1881 on the Floyd Streamer Kanprioz Fredrick Wolhelm and came directly to Galveston, Texas arriving Oct 1, 1881. She was the oldest child, so she and her brother Bill would plow with two oxen pulling a walking plow. At 14 years she was confirmed at the Lutheran Church at Round Top, Texas, taken in a two seated Surry pulled by two horses. At 15 years the family moved to Wahlburg i 1893. The homesteaded a small farm. Etta, her sister Annie and brother Bill Jansen helped to clear the land to get it ready to plow. Etta had very little schooling, studying English and German, enough to read and write. She lived on this farm until she met Adolph Julius Bartz. They wer 19 years old and met at the St Peter Lutheran Church in Wahlburg, Texas.
