About Eugene Tibbs

Obituary:

Eugene Tibbs was born in Morgantown, Monongahala county, West Viginia, March 27, 1827, died March 26, 1914, aged 86 years, 11 months and 29 days.

He, with his parents, moved to Ritchie county, in the spring of 1848, where he lived until after the Civil War, having served four years in the war, under General Lee.

He was married to Miss Mary Daugherty, Dec. 25 1851. To this union were born seven children, six of whom are left to mourn the loss of a kind and loving father.

At the close of the war, he, with his family, moved to St. Francisville, where he resided until the spring of 1877. From here he went to Barton county, remaining there about three years. After this, South Dakota was his home until September, 1905, when he came back to St. Francisville, where he remained until his death.

The children who survive him are: T. W. Tibbs, Highmore, S. D.; R. C. Tibbs, Hushpuckana, Miss.; Mrs. Ella E. Abernathy, Arapahoe, Colo.; B. B. and W. W. Tibbs, of Chitina, Alaska, and Mrs Louisa J. Abernathy, at whose home he passed away.

The funeral service was conducted by Rev. F. P. Frye, of Kahoka, at St. Francisville, Sunday, at 10 a.m. Interment was made in the Sand Cemetery.
