About Ewald August Esselen
African Children's Encyclopedia Volume XI 1962 Esselen, Ewald Auguste, lawyer. 1858: Born in Worcester on September 27. Received his education at the Gymnasium in Stellenbosch. 1876: Go for further studies in law at the South African College, and then to London. 1881: Return to South Africa to take part in the First War, but only during the peace negotiations in time to act as secretary of Paul Kruger. Then he returned to London. 1884: Acting as secretary of the delegation, Paul Kruger who go to England to obtain an amendment of the Pretoria Convention. 1885: To be admitted to the bar in Cape Town. 1886: Is elected as a member of the Legislative Assembly of the Cape Colony for Richmond supporter of the Afrikaner Bond. 1887: He is right in the South African Republic. 1890: Resigned as judge and start practicing as an advocate. He was elected as a member of the Second House of Assembly for Potchefstroom. 1893: Is elected as a member of the First Assembly. 1894: Is appointed attorney-general of the ZAR 1895: Resigned as Attorney General to practice as an advocate. 1900: Is prisoner of war, but are allowed to go on parole to Europe. 1902: Come back and start practicing as an advocate. 1904: Is one of the founders of The Yolk in the Transvaal and serves as chairman of the executive. 1918: died in Cape Town in September.
