Eyke Aelbert Kierstede

Dr. Roeloff KIERSTED married, 1670, to Aaghe ROOSA, born 1651, daughter of Albert Heymanse and Wyntje (ARIENS) ROOSA.

Roelof Kiersted bp 1 Jan 1647 New Amsterdam; died 1685 Kingston NY; son of Hans Kiersted and Sarah Roelofse.

Ayke's death used to be listed as 1684. Now changed to AFTER 1710.

Something about the record below for Eyke Roosa did not look right to me, and so I did a bit of research from the rocords that I have and found the following.

   Roelof's father was Hans Kierstede who came to New Amsterdam with Director Keift in 1638. He married Sara Roelofs in Manhatten 29 June 1642. Hans died before 1669 in Manhatten and his widow, Sara R., married second Cornelis Van Borsum of Manhatten in 1669. (Ulster County Wills, Vol.2, Gustaf Anjou, 1906)

1671 Apr 12; Roelof Kierstede, Ytie Jans; Sara; Hans Kierstede, Cornelis Van Borsum, Sara RoelofsYtie/Eyle Aldertse (Roosa)). <Eyle (aka Eyke) is a witness to the baptism of Hans Kierstede.

   Roelof married Eyke Roosa at some time circa 1669. They were nor married in Kingston, as ther is no record for that year as therre was no resident Minister. Visiting Ministers came, on occasion to Kingston, from Manhatten and Albany on to perform baptisms, and if there were any marriages that were performed the were, most likely, recorded in the Manhatten anad Albany church records. There is a possibility that they were married by a JP, but it did not occure in Kingston as the JP here recorded all his marriages during that time.

Roelof and Eyke had the following children:
* Sara, baptised 2 April, 1671 in Manhatten- the witnesses were Jan (AKA Hans) Kiersted, brother,; Cornelis Van Borsum and his wife Sara Roelofs, step father and mother.#
+ Wynte, baptised 25 March, 1673 in Manhatten- witnesses were Johannes Van Brug and Catherine Roelofs.
127 + Annetie, baptised 18 April, 1675 in Kingston - witnesses were Aldert Heymans and Wintie Allerts, Eyke's father and mother.
+ Hans, baptised 4 August 1677 in Manhatten - witnesses were Sara Kierstede (Roelofs)
205 + Lukas, baptised 24 De3cember 1679 in Kingston - witnesses Matys Ten Eyck and Jannetie Newkirk
248 + Blandina, baptised 8 January 1682 in Kingston - witnesses were Jan Albertse Rosa and Hilligon Williams
380 + Aldert, baptised 16 August 1684 in Kingston, witnesses Neeltje Rosa and Heyman Rosa
436 + Aldert, baptised 16 November 1685 in Kingston-witnesses were Ary Rosa and Maria Pels
* Manhatten Church Records + Kingston Church Records

From these records it appears that Euke could not have died in 1684. She was alive in September 1708 when her father's estate was probated and in 1710 when she and her husband were deeded the land she recieved. (Book BB, pg 1) SHe later deeded this property to her son Aldert, with the proviso that he take care of his parents in their old age. (Book BB, pg 15) I do not have, at this time, the date of her death and where she was buried. Deed Books are in the County Office Building, Kingston, NY

I am aware that what I have sent to you here is in conflict with what you have looked up on the internet. But those records are rarely documented and very hard to substanciate.

Linda asked when we met if there were any siblings of Eyke buried in the Hurley Burial Grounds, and the answer is yes. I will be glad to show you those stones when you visit again.
