About R' Yechezkia Yehoshua Feivel Teomim, ABD Przemysl

NOTE by researcher, Robert Hanscom (11 January 2020): despite several sources indicating that R' Ezekiel Joshua Feiwel Teomim died in 1725 or 1726, he was still alive (a) at the death of his son, R' Chaim Yona Frankel-Teomim (Dec. 1727); (b) on 14 Sep 1730, when he signed a certificate in Breslau; and (c) in 1732, according to family lore. He appears to have died about 1733 in Breslau [now Wroclaw, Poland].

________________________________________________________________

"Die Familie Teomim", by Leopold Lowenstein: "Chiskija Joshua Feibel Teomim, born c1654 in Grodno, rabbi in Zulz and then in Przemysl, where he was the successor of his brother Isack Meir; due to disputes, he left the job and moved to Breslau. There he had a leaflet printed in 1719 in which he expressed his unwillingness about the insults he had suffered in Przemysl. He also wrote polemical glosses on R. Meir Eisenstadt's works. He is said to have died c.1726 in Breslau and was buried in Krotoschin, as well as his wife Perl, the daughter of R. Lob b. Secharja (high R. Praise) from Krakow who died on the Sabbath, 14 Siwan (30 May) 1722."

However, a footnote in the Lowenstein history, indicates that he survived his son, R' Jona, that he signed a certificate on 14 Sep 1730, and that he was still alive in 1732. His death in Breslau likely occurred about 1733.

"Die Familie Teomim" [Lowenstein]: "A credibly attested tradition indicates that R. Chiskel Joshua Feiwel Teomim survived his son R. Chaim Jonah. Moreover, Wetstein (Eschkol VII, 223) located a certificate signed by the father [R' Chiskel Joshua] on Thursday (3rd Tischri 491), 14 September 1730..."

Rabbi Feivel Premsler Joshua Ezekial TEOMIM (THEOMIM?) (b. 1654 Grodno, Lithuania, d. 1726 Przemyst, Galicia). Named "Frankel" because he went to Przemysl from France (Metz).

He was the son of Bella and Rabbi Chaim Johnah THEOMIM (d. 16 April 1669) who was author of Kikujan di Jonah, edited in Amsterdam 1690 by his son Josua, second printing 1712 at Hanau, Germany.

Chaim Theomim was born in Prague and acted as rabbi in Grodno and Pinsk (Lithuania). In 1648, because of the Chmielnick pogrom, he fled to Vienna, Nikolsburg (Austria), and finally Metz (Lorraine).]

In Tka Shofar it says he was born about 1653-1655:

http://www.hebrewbooks.org/pdfpager.aspx?req=9013&st=&pgnum=2

That means he was born when his father was 57-59. According to the story in יכבד אב he was 11 when he fled from Chamelnetzki. Hard to believe such stories, but it is easier to belive he was born when his father was only 41.
