Ezekiel Powers

"Ezekiel Powers, a native of Grafton, Ms., was born March 27, 1745, and came to this town [Croydon] in 1767. He was remarkable for great physical strenth, and for a hardiness of constitution which made him easily endure the extremities of heat and cold. During the Revolutionary war he held a Lieutenant's comission int he militia, and was present at the surrender of Burgoyne. But he was conspicuous, principally, as being a practical and substantial farmer; and his memory will long be cherished by the agriculturists in this vicinity, on account of his first introducing the practice of ridging greensward for the purpose of raising Indian corn, and also on account of his invention of "looped sleds."
