About Ezekiel Sanford, Jr
DAR Ancestor #: A100048 Pension *S431103
Ezekiel had nine children by his first marriage, and one by his second. The first five children were born in Waterbury, Connecticut. He removed to Windsor, New York after the birth of his youngest child, and in 1795 they removed to Dryden, New York.
He served in the Revolutionary War, and the family had a letter dated 27th April 1778 written from Camp Valley Forge. Ezekiel fought in the battles of Germantown and Monmouth (The battle at Monmouth Court House, NJ, in 1778, was the last major battle in the North during the Revolution and took place in the spring following the winter spent at Valley Forge, PA). He was wounded in battle by a bullet striking the bridge of his nose. The letter mentioned that he had been very ill, but was regaining strength, and expressed his concern for his wife as she had the full care of the children in these difficult circumstances.
In April 1818 he was living in Dryden, New York when he applied for a pension and received it.
Died at Springwater, New York, at the home of his son Soton.
