According to The Compendium, Vol. II, Ezekiel is listed under the First Families in America section as a planter in Bertie County, NC. In the Compendium he is listed also as a soldier in the American Revolution. We found he was a patriot who supplied a gun for the cause, but no real proof of these facts can be sustantiated other than Mr. Mellon's listing in the Compendium and what proof he had is unknown.
We also found where Ezekiel knew the trade of shoemaker. He took a young man to be an apprentice to the trade in August of 1789. He was very active in the courts in Bertie County. Some where around 1792 he sold his land in Bertie Co. and moved his family to Washington County, GA.
Ezekiel owned a large plantation in Washington County with which he owned slaves, horses, cattle and hogs. Notice of the sale of his estate is found on the microfilm spool #18. University of GA Library, in the Louisville Gazette and The Republican Trumpet of Jefferson County, GA.
