Farrokhzad Khosrow V r.631 Sasanian King

Hormizd VI (Persian: هرمز‎), was Sassanid King of Persia from 630 to 631, he was one of the many pretenders who rose after the murder of Khosrau II (590–628) in 628.

He was proclaimed king by Persian troops of Shahrbaraz in Nisibis, while others had raised Azarmidokht to the throne.

When two years later Yazdegerd III was elected by some magnates as king in Estakhr, the same troops from Nisibis opposed him and were presumably overcome.

There was also a brief usurper king, not always numbered among the monarchs, called Hormizd V in 593. According to Sebeos, Hormizd VI was the grandson of Khosrau II.

However, according Bahram Moshiri he in reality was the spahbod Farrokh Hormizd, who supposedly wished to seize power, and who actually obtained it under the name Hormozd VI.

Farrukhzad Khosrau V was the son of Khosrau II. Since his father was said to have had a shabestan with over 3,000 concubines, it is not known if one of these concubines was his mother or Khosrau's favorite wife Shirin.

Farrukhzad Khosrau also had many other siblings and half-siblings named Mardanshah, Juvansher, Borandukht, Kavadh II, Shahriyar, and Azarmidokht.

In 628, his father was deposed by the Sasanian nobles in favor of his brother Kavadh II, who executed all of their brothers and half-brothers. However, Farrukhzad Khosrau managed to flee to a fortress near Nisibis where he took refuge.

In 631 he was brought to Ctesiphon by a Sasanian noble named Zadhuyih, where he was crowned as king of the Sasanian Empire. One month later, however, he faced a rebellion where he was overthrown and killed.
