About Fernando Campbell Boyd, I
Fernando Campbell Boyd the First (several descendants were named after him) was born in northern Roane County, Tennessee out-of-wedlock in 1840 to Susannah M. (Susan) Boyd (who was named after her mother) and David Campbell Nail.
Fernando became a Cooper (made barrels) and farmer. On June 1, 1860, he and his prospective bride, Elizabeth Jane "Betsy" Winchester, traveled to the county seat of Kingston, Tennessee, and secured a license to be wed. The officiating official did not return the legal papers to be recorded, so we do not know who married them or the exact day.
When Tennessee seceded from the Union, Fernando & Betsy moved with his mother and other family to the Albany, Kentucky area. A couple of years after the Civil War, they returned to Tennessee and lived on the Cumberland Plateau at Cagle in Sequatchie County, where Fernando died at age 31 in 1871, likely of congestive heart disease. He was buried in the McGlothen Cemetery which is not just off Hwy. 111 in the Cagle community. He was survived by his widow and four young sons, Johnathan Henry Harrison, Daniel Dueast, Balinger Right, and John Preston Campbell Boyd.
