About Florence Adelaide Rhodes Merry
Florrie was crippled in her twenties from what is thought to be Polio. She never married, but had a son, Cedric Merry. Florrie lived at 'Merrydale' with her mother, Louisa, then at 'Sweet Home' earning her living by sewing, knitting and crocheting. She taught her niece, Ethel Voss (my grandmother), everything she knew. Florrie died aged 55 years.Florrie's grandson was told she had arthritis, Betty her niece spoke of her quite often & she said she was cripples with arthritis
Reginald Gardner had an affair with Florence Merry soon after his first wife died. Florence was helping look after Reginald's first child. This story was told to Cedric (the illegitimate child of Reg and Florence) by his mother Florence.
DNA analysis proves that a Gardner was indeed the father of Cedric.
Death: NSW Death Registration No. 4563/1948 RHODES HENRY FLORENCE ADELAIDE parents: ARTHUR HENRY and LOUISA at GLEN INNES. {NB HENRY was obviously mistranscribed for MERRY}.
