It looks like the Francois Vilcour that married Arthemise in 1850 was enumerated with FC Metoyer in 1850. His age would indicate he was born about 1827. This is close to tracking with Slaves and Masters which has Francois "La Pointe"marrying Desiree in 1827. But, FC's age suggests he was born in 1795 which does not track with "La Pointe"'s age.

Arthemise was enumerated with Margaret LeCompte in 1850. Arthemise according to the census was born in about 1826. This Arthemis was enumerated with FF Metoyer in 1860 and is the Arthemise with the son "Wilper" in 1870. If Francis was born in 1827 and if he is the son of Francois then his mother would have been Marie Arthemis Dupart. According to the "Life and Labors of a Former Slave" chart that would have been Francois Vilcour.

However, the 1850 marriage license states Francois Vilcour's mother was Marie Desiree Coton-Mais. That would suggest he is the son of Joseph Francois and Maris Desiree Coton-Mais as stated in the "Live and Labors of a Former Slave" family chart. I cannot find who wrote Life and Labors or when it was published. Do YOU? Did Mills write both?

BUT Francois Vilcour could be the son of Francois Metoyer II and Desiree Coton-Mais if we use the only the Mills Slaves and Masters article.

If we use the marriage license and the "Live and Labors" chart then Francois would have been Joseph Francois and Arthemise would have been his second wife. Then the age in the census for Francois too is wrong.

Bottom Line: Dump the chart and go with Slaves and Masters. Francois Metoyer II is the father of Francois Vilcour.

I spoke with Lisa Maria Slater today. She is the applicant in NSDAR #920584. She is a descendent of Claude Metoyer’s 4th child with Marie Thereze, Pierre Metoyer. Lisa told me that NSDAR used information from three publications to conclude that Claude Thomas was the father of Pierre (hopefully the same documentation will apply to Francois). I have attached one of those articles from the National Genealogical Quarterly. I have not been able to digest this article yet, but will do so tonight. I am trying to locate the other two articles. I will forward them to you once I locate them.
