- The orphaned children of Charles Washington's oldest son, George Augustine Washington, and of Martha Washington's niece Frances Bassett Washington Lear, were named George Fayette, Charles Augustine, and Anna Maria. The children lived with their stepfather at Walnut Tree Farm, a part of the Mount Vernon Clifton's Neck land which Washington left to the two little boys.

She was the daughter of Burwell Bassett and Anna Maria Dandridge Bassett, Anna was the sister of Martha Dandridge Custis Washington, and her first husband was George Augustine Washington, which she married Tobias Lear after George's death.
