FRANCES ANDERSON, daughter of Reynard Anderson and Elizabeth Skiffen, was born between 1663 and 1670 in Charles City County, Virginia, just northeast of current Petersburg, and died 1726 in Prince George County, Virginia.

She married

  • (1) JOHN HERBERT before 1687.[4] He was born 1659 in London, England, and died 16 March 1703/04 at “Puddledock,” Charles City County.
  • (2) THOMAS COCKE ca. 1705 [or 1707?].
  • (3) JOSHUA WYNNE ca. 1711. He was born 1662 and died 1715 in Prince George County.

John Herbert, a wealthy trader, lived on his estate “Puddlecock,” east of Petersburg; the widowed Mrs. Herbert was credited with 3925 acres of land in the 1704 rent roll of Prince George County and 1360 acres in Henrico County

In 1716 (during her third marriage) Mrs. Frances Wynne was still executrix of (her first husband’s) Herbert’s estate. She made her own will on 16 October 1725, probated 4 March 1726/7.[5]

Frances’s second husband, CAPT. THOMAS COCKE was born ca. 1662, son of Thomas Cocke and (possibly) Agnes Powell. His will, 16 January 1706/7, with a codicil 14 February 1706/7, was proven 15 October 1725. In his will he named his issue: Thomas, James Powell, Brazure, Mary, and Elizabeth. These were all children by his first wife, Mary Brasseur of Nansemond, daughter of John Brasseur and Mary Pitt.[6]
