Francis moved to what became Crump's Bottom on the New River about 1772 with his two oldest sons by his first wife Nancy Whitlow Farley. They were Thomas, who built Farley's Fort on the west side of the New River in 1775 and Francis Jr., the father of Nancy Elizabeth Farley Ellison. Francis Sr. drowned in the New River in 1791 and was buried one mile below the mouth of Indian Creek on his son Matthew's Farm, which was on the northeast side of the New River. His 2nd wife Elizabeth Crostic Farley, who was Matthew's mother, died in 1797 and was buried next to Francis Sr.. Their burial site is now underwater when Lake Bluestone is at flood level and uncovered when it is at its normal level. Their graves may have been moved when the Bluestone Dam was built in the 1940's.
