Anne Arundel Co., MD;11 m. Ruth -?-. Claims that she was a daughter of Joseph MORLEY are in error. This appeared in print with Harry Wright Newman's 1st Edition (1933) of "Anne Arundel Gentry," based on MORLEY's 1672 will in which he made Robert PROCTOR and John GATHER his executors and legatees.21 Newman corrected this in his second edition (1970), as court records show Joseph MORLEY died with no heirs.10
Excerpt from "Gaither Family Genealogy of VA to MD to NC" by F Z Saunders: "Claims that Ruth is a daughter of Joseph MORLEY is in error. This appeared in print with Harry Wright Newman's 1st Edition (dated 1933) of "Anne Arundel Gentry," based on Morley's 1672 will in which he made Robert Proctor and John Gaither his executors and legatees.
As court records show Joseph Morley died with no heirs, Harry Wright Newman corrected his error in his second edition published in 1970.

There are also claims that Ruth's surname was BEARD, daughter of Richard Beard. To date, no one has been able to supply any records proving that Richard's Beard's daughter Ruth and John Gaither's wife Ruth are the same person."

The tax lists for Anne Arundel co. about 1707, "The Landing of 70 acres and "Gaiter's Range" of 200 acres at the head of South River were held by Francis Hardisty by marrying the "Relic of John Gaither" (sic) (Tax Lists A.A. co. Hall of Records).

He married (2) DORCAS LINTHICUM 4 February 1718/19 in All Hallows Parish, Anne Arundel Co, Maryland, daughter of FRANCIS LINTHICUM and DEBORAH WYMAN. Dorcas was buried in All Hallows Chapel Cemetery Davidsonville, Anne Arundel County, Maryland MEMORIAL ID 127277422

Dorcas Linthicum was born on 15 Aug. 1700 and at that time her father was a member of the Society of Friends.
This marriage is found recorded in Robert BARNES' MD Marriages: HARDISTY, Francis, 4 F 1719, All Hallows, AA, Dorcas LINCECOM {sic, LINTHICUM?}.
It was consistent with the customs of the Quakers to "read out" of the Society anyone who made an "irregular marriage" which was certainly the case of Francis Hardesty, as Francis continued a member of the Established Church of Md., that is, the Anglican faith.
The grandfather of Dorcas (Linthicum) Hardisty, that is Leonard Wyman, by his will, dated 16 Mar. 1720/1, probated in Anne Arundel co., Md. on 6 Apr. 1721 devisited his dau. Deborah Linthicum, 100 acres of "Happy Choice" during life and at her decease to revert to his granddaughter, Dorcas Hardisty, the eldest daughter of the said dau., Deborah Linthicum (Wills Liber 16 Folio 444).
WRIGHT's Anne Arundel Church Records: Francis HARDISTY & Dorcas had: Deborah, b. 8 D 1720; Thomas, b. 67 Mar. 1721; & Peter, b. 19 S 1723, All Hallows Parish
Six children were born to this marriage, the fifth child was Robert, b. 23 October 1730. Robert was probably born at The Landing which was 70 acres, or at Gaither's Range, 200 acres, both located at the "head" of South River in Ann Arundel, County, Maryland.
His widow, Dorcas, was living as late as 29 May 1741, when she was bequeathed one shillings by the will of her father, Thomas Linthicum (wills, Liber 22, Folio, 395).

Children of FRANCIS HARDISTY and DORCAS LINTHICUM are:

He was a member of the Established Church of Md., that is, the Anglican faith.

The said last will and testament of Francis Hardisty was dated 15 Feb. 1733/4 and admitted for probate in Anne Arundel co., Md. on 15 Feb. 1733/4. He signed the instrument as "Francis Hardisty".

Unfortunately he failed to name all of his children. (Wills Liber 21 Folio 91). "To son Francis Hardisty "My Negro wench Sarah" her child and their increase."

He appointed his unnamed wife the executrix.

"Unto my wife, son Francis and the rest of my children to be divided amongest them as the law directs for distribution of the surplusage on interstate estates."

The only children mentioned in Francis Hardesty's will were son Francis, a daughter who m. Thomas Smith, and son Thomas (guardian John Fowler).

Dorcas remarried By 10 Aug. 1737 to Thomas Harrison, who may have been guardian of other (younger) children, but nothing in the probate records on this.

The appraisement and inventory of the personal estate made on 1 Jul. 1734 (Inventories Liber 19 Folio 126). The total valuation 9/12/0, a goodly sum for that day. The greatest values were in slaves of which there were nine, and numerous livestock.

Francis Hardisty and Rachel Welch approved as the next as next of kin, and Thomas Linthicum, presumably his father-in-law, approved as the greatest creditor.

Thomas Harrison and his wife, Dorcas, filed an account with the court reporting a balance at that time ofL- 129/16/0. (Administration Accounts Liber 4 Folio 323).

The final account and distribution were made by Thomas Harrison and Dorcas his wife of 2 Jan. 1737/8 and allocated to the following:
