The death of Mr John Abbott, of New Plymouth, occurred yesterday at the age of 74. Owing to an accident about two months ago he had to be removed to hospital, where he suffered a stroke, and it was then feared there was little hope of his recovery. Since his arrival m New Plymouth some 50 years ago in the ship Duke of Edinburgh, Mr Abbott had been in the tinsmith business. In a family of 12 children 10 survive Mr Abbott, they being: Mrs J. Foreman (Papatoetoe), Mrs F. T. Bellringer (New Plymouth), Mrs F. Loesch (New Plymouth), Mrs G. "King (Takapuna), and Miss Florence Abbott (New Plymouth), and Messrs J. W., Ernest, Harold and Clarence Abbott (New Plymouth), and Henry Abbott (Rangataua). Mrs Abbott predeceased her husband by about 20 years.
