He went by Neil. Neil Attended rural schools in the Holdrege, NE area, and graduated from Holdrege High School in 1944.
On February 17, 1944, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps under the Deferred Entry Act. He began active duty on January 11, 1945. After hi hardship discharge from the service January 1946, Neil farmed with his father. Neil and Fay Deen moved to Holdrege in February of 1947 where they lived for 10 years. During this time, four children were born.Neil worked at the Carl Jensen garage, Mac's Ford Tractor under Leo NcNeil.
He then began his career in automotive parts sales with L.J. Messer Co. After moving to Kearney , NE in 1957, he worked for Brodine Tractor for 2 years. He joined Sidles Co. in 1959. In 1974, Neil and Fay Deen moved to Ames, IA where he became manager of the Sidles store. In 1976, they moved to Shenandoah, IA to manage the Sidles store there, which he purchased in 1977. Neil was owner-operator of the Sidles Mr. Automotive Store until selling it 1985. He retired 6 months later and worked part time for Beecher's Chevy-Olds, Select Motors and Butcher Hardware. In his spare time, he enjoyed working on his antique cars and gardening. Neil was a member of the first United Methodist Church, elks, American Legion, United Commercial Travelers, and Traveler's Protective Association. (Obit Dec 1988 Sentinel Newspaper Shenandoah, IA)
He married Fay Deen (Randall) Olson, daughter of James Robert Randall and Blanche Emma Kimton, August 11, 1945 in Phillipsburg, KS. Fay Deen graduated from elm Creek High School, Elm Creek, NE, 1945. While living in Kearney, she worked as dental assistant.
