About Franziska "Fanny" Katz

  • Fanny's birth name is spelled various ways: Meyer, Meier, and Mayer. It is spelled here as "Mayer"
  • Identified as wife of Levy (Leopold) Katz in Siegfried Wolf. Juden in Thüringen 1933-1945: Biographische Daten. (2000), vol. 1, p. 281.
  • Identified as mother of Rosa Holländer (née Katz) in Rosa Holländer's Emigration Index card; see https://collections.arolsen-archives.org/en/document/129819061
  • In September 1942, Leopold and Fanny Katz were forced to sign a contract with the Reichsvereinigung der Juden in Deutschland (RV)(The National Association of German Jews) whereby they assigned all their remaining assets to the RV. The contract was called a "Heimeinkaufsvertrag" or "Home Purchase Contract" and was supposed to provide Leopold and Fanny Katz with room & board and medical attention and other care in the Theresienstadt Ghetto. Instead, the money paid to the RV went directly into Nazi coffers, and Leopold and Fanny Katz did not receive any of the promised care.
  • On 19/20 September 1942, Leopold and Fanny Katz were deported from Saalfeld to Ghetto Theresienstadt. https://www.holocaust.cz/en/database-of-victims/victim/18286-fanny-...
  • Fanny's sister, Bertha, was deported on the same date to Theresienstadt, as was her brother-in-law, Josef Katz.
