Frederick Wells Avery of Ottawa, millionaire lumberman, died in Montreal today, Thursday, 11 May 1916, at a hospital after an operation. Mr. Avery was born in New York in 1852 and came to Canada in 1879. He was a former vice president of the Canadian Lumbermen's Association.

  • Notes: Frederick Wells Avery came to Canada in 1878. He was involved in many different industries including White–Avery, the Red Timber & Lumber Co., the Hull Lumber Company and the Arundel Lumber Company. From 1906 to 1907 he was president of the Rideau Club and the Perley Home for Incurables in Ottawa. In 1909, he was elected vice president of the Canadian Lumberman’s Association. Frederick was an Anglican and served as a delegate in the 1914 Provincial Synod. At that time he resided at 129 Cooper Street in Ottawa, Ontario. Frederick was married twice. His first wife was Annie Vaughn Stratton (Saturday, 27 March 1852 - Saturday, 25 January 1890), the daughter of Norman Statton of the US Army.
