notes

General Notes: Frederick Croft, Jr. was the son on John Frederick Croft 1
741-1805. He was the oldest child, born about 1764, place unknown, and was given his father's name. He married Elizabeth, who was probaly the daughter of Lewis Duvall, about 1787, and, they were listed in the Greenville Co., SC 1790 census. His place of birth is unknown, but two of his sons, David and Lew is were living in 1880 when the census listed the birthplace of their father. David reported that his father was born in Virginia, but Lewis erroneously reported that he, his father, and his mother were born in Georgia. David might be correct, but no other confirming data has been found. Frederick may have been in the Virginia Line in the late Revolutionary War period, but the first proven record of Frederick, Jr. was the Greenville Co., SC, 1790 census. He was also listed in the 1800 and 1810 census, but was not found in the 1820 census. He was named coexecutors, with his brother John, of his father's estate in 1805. He died intestate in Greenville Co., SC , in 1827-1828, and his estate papers identify his wife, Elizabeth, and his ten children. All of his heirs in South Carolina, except John B., apparently remained on the 356 acres of land that Frederick owned until 1845, and then sold it for $1,000 before they moved to Cheroke e Co., Georgia. John B. Croft settled in Anderson Co., SC, migrated to Dekalb Co., Alabama in 1859. Frederick was in the Greenville Co., SC 1790 and 1800 census, age 26-45, and 1810 census, age over 45, with family. He was not in 1820 census and was either missed or in another location. In the 1790 census, there was one male and three females. In 1800, there were three males under 10, one male 10-16, one male over 45; one female under 10, one female 10-16, and one female 26-45. In 1810, there were four males under 10, three males 10-16 and one male over 45; one female under 10, one female 16-26 and one female 26-45. Frederick was listed on the membership roll of Fork Shoals Baptist Church in Greenville Co., SC in 1820. He died in Greenville Co., SC in 1828 and his children were named in the administration of the estate of $608 and 356 acres, orginally granted to William Gilliam, or Gililand, adjacent to John H. Joyce. It was sold by his family in 1844. His wife, Elizabeth, was also listed as a member of Fork Shoals Baptist Church and was granted a letter of dismissal on 11-Jan-1845. She was in the Greenville Co., SC 1830 census, age 50-60, 1840 census, age 60-70, and Cobb Co., GA 1850 census, age 81, born SC, with son Ira. She is buried in the Croft Cemetery near Woodstock, Cherokee Co., GA.
