General Notes: John bought 292 acres of land for 60 pounds from his father, Frederick, in Greenville Co., South Carolina in December 1797 Book D, pg. 453. At the same time, Frederick sold 200 acres to his son George, and gave his three unmarried daughters his household furnishings. The 292 acres had been purchased just a couple months earlier for 60 pounds from Lewis Duvall Book D pg. 452, was described as Frederick's homeplace. There is no record of additional land purchases in Greenville Co. until he bought 50 acres from William Ray in September 1812 for $30 Book I, pg. 218. At the same time, John sold 150 acres to James Sanford and 250 acres to Eli Baldwin, apparrently just before moving to Kentucky. In January 1819, John bought 100 acres on Drakes Creek of Pond River in Hopkins Co., Kentucky from John and Elizabeth Taylor of Madison Co. , Illinois for $200.
John and his oldest brother, Frederick, Jr. were named as joint Executor of his father's estate in Greenville Co., South Carolina in 1805, and he and his brother-in-law, Christopher Jackson, were joint executors of Joseph Jackson's will in Hopkins Co., Kentucky in 1814. Joseph Jackson was one of three selected to make an inventory of the estate of John's father in 1805 in Greenville Co., South Carolina, and Christopher was Joseph's son who married John's sister, Rebecca. There are no known records of John's will or estate papers in Kentucky.
