Another update on Frederick John Leatherman, born maybe in Maryland, left home, Army in opposition to his father's wishes; was present at the defeat of General St. Clair (1). (His expedition against the Indians met with a most disastrous defeat, November 4, 1791, near headwaters of the Wabash, the battlefield known as Ft. Recovery- now Mercer County, Ohio) and was reported to have taken part in a number of other battles and had many narrow escapes during his thrilling experiences on the frontier. He settled around the Louisville, KY area near some of his family, (sister Betsey). On August 21, 1797 in Shelby County, KY he married Polly Lastly and they lived in Shelby, Nelson, & Bullitts Counties, KY, before moving to Floyd County, Indiana by 1820; by 1822 they lived in Putnam County, Indiana, where he made a land entry. Polly died about 1820-1823, Indiana, and Frederick married 2nd time March 21,1824, Putnam County, Indiana, Mary Polly Davis Tomlinson, a widow. She was the ! daughter of John and Elizabeth (Shafer) Davis; she died around 1830-1834, Putnam County, Indiana, and he married a 3rd time to Rachel________. He died suddenly in 1838, at the age of 66, on the road home from La wrenceburg, Indiana. In a Putnam County, Indiana Land Conveyance, dated May 13, 1839 the Heirs of Frederick are named as: Rachel Leatherman, widow.
