Added by Y. DROST, 22 JAN 2013 Sy naam word soms verkeerdelik aan gegee as Frederik Johannnes. Op 16 jarige ouderdom het hy reeds deel geneem aan veldslae teen Bantoe stamme . Hy neem ook deel aan die eerste vryheidsoorlog en word in 1895 aangestel as Kommandant van Krugersdorp kommando . Hy speel n belangrike rol in die stuiting van die Jameson Inval. In Feb 1900 word hy ernstig in die bors gewond maar bly by die kommando as raadgewer. Hy word in 1901. as landros van Krugersdorp aangestel . Hy word in 1902 as gevangene na St Helena gestuur, Hy verset hom 1n 1914 teen die inval in Suidwes Afrika en word vir 5 maande in die tronk gesit, Hy sterf op sy plaas Nooitgedacht Krugersdorp. Appeared before me, HERMANUS JACOB COSTER, State Attorney and ex-officio J.P. of the South African Republic, FREDERICK JACOBUS POTGIETER, Commandant of the Krugersdorp District, who makes oath and states:

On the morning of January 2, I received a written report from the enemy in which was stated that he would surrender, but that he must be allowed to go back over the line. I answered thereon in writing that I would call the officers together and would then immediately notify him. The report received by me I immediately transmitted to Commandant Cronje. A short time after I saw Commandant Cronje with the burghers going towards the enemy. I thereupon also went towards the enemy and met Commandant Cronje there. I then attended the discussion as set forth in the declaration given by J.T. Celliers, dated March 6, 1896, and confirmed by Messrs. Michiel Joseph Adendorff and Benjamin Johannes Vilgoen.

The purport of that discussion is correctly rendered.
