Fritz Brettschneider (1939 - 2002)
Brief overview:
Fritz (63), was shot dead on his Kromdraai farm at Rooiberg, between Bela-Bela (Warmbaths) and Koedoeskop, in Limpopo on July 25th 2002. The four attackers fled with Brettschneider's firearm.
"Police should not say the motive was robbery as they always do. The motive was murder.
They came to kill my husband and that's all. They didn't take anything, even if they had all the chance." This is how a shocked Mrs. Elsa Brettschneider (58), said after the murder. A heap of ash under a tree in the bushes about 50 m from the house where the attackers spent the night, was proof yesterday that they were waiting to shoot her husband dead, Brettschneider said.
Brettschneider said she and her husband and their son, Conrad, who were visiting with them for the week, were in the house when their two boerboels, Saartjie and Willem-Nelson, started barking yesterday morning. "He (her husband) said there was a strange dog in the kennel and took my .38 revolver to shoot the dog. "I was working in the kitchen when I heard five shots. I thought he was shooting the dog. Then I looked out the window, I could only see three men running into the bushes. "I went out to see what was going on and when I pushed the door open, my husband lay there right in front of the door, stone dead on the flat of his back, with a shot through his heart, she said.
