Fritz Landauer

The architect Fritz Landauer (1883-1968) was born in Augsburg as son of Joseph and Anna Landauer. The grand house Froehlichstr. 5 for his cousin Otto Landauer (son of Joseph Landauers brother Heinrich Landauer and Bettina, nee Stein) was his first major construction project. Fritz Landauer in Augsburg today is best known for the Synagogue Halderstr. 6-8 (built 1913-17). Landauer escaped the Nazi regime in 1937 and lived in England until he passed away in 1968. Temporarily he made ends meet with designing and manufacturing of grave markers – a previous experience he made in Augsburg, where his parents as well as all aunts and uncles are buried.

In 1910-11 the architect built Fritz Landauer for his cousin Otto Landauer (1882-1974) in the Fröhlichstr. 5 his first house. Fritz Landauer (1883-1968) was the son of Joseph (1853-1929) and Anna Landauer born (1861-1913). His father and his uncle are coming from the sons Hürben weaver and textile manufacturer Moses Samuel Landauer (1808-1894), founder of the resident in Oberhausen factory MSLandauer , which in 1938 was expropriated. In the postwar period to 1995 at the factory site was the textile company Elbeo of Dietrich Bahner. Fritz Landauer in Augsburg especially for the construction of the synagogue (1913-1917) at the Halderstr. 6-8 known, its equivalent to less than the expectations of the clients.
