About Galbraith Patterson (USA)
Gilbreath Patterson, Corporal, Co. D, 105th Regiment, Pennsylvania Infantry ("Wildcat Regiment" ).
- Census: 1860 Galbraith Patterson (20), Winslow Township, Jefferson, Pennsylvania, United States
In 1860 he was a laborer living in the household of Gilbert Burroughs. He enlisted in the Union army 28 August 1861 as a Private during the Civil War. He was promoted to the rank of Corporal, but deserted 6 December 1864, the day before Warren's expedition to Hicksford. There is no further record of him. There is perhaps no pension record for him because his mother was a widow in 1850 and died in 1870, about the time pensions began.
The 105th was recruited in Allegheny and Clearfield counties (other sources say raised mainly in the counties of Jefferson, Clarion, and Clearfield). It was organized at Pittsburgh in September and October 1861, and mustered into the U. S. service for a three-year term. Out of a total enrollment of 2,040, the regiment lost 309 men by death from wounds or disease, and 199 soldiers were reported as missing.
