About Gamaliel Beaman, I, of Dorchester

Gamaliel Beaman was born Oct 4 1623 in Biddulph Staffordshire England and Died 23 Mar 1678 in Dorchester, Suffolk, Massachusetts, . His parents are I believe Gamaliel Beamond Beaumont born 1593, He married his wife was Sarah Clark in Dorchester Suffolk Massachusetts USA on 23td of March 1678.
. I believe this is the grand son of Adam Beamond born in 1570 and Helena Knightsford born in 1575. For the Gamaliel born in 1623 Helena would have been 48 years old at the time of his birth. His two other brothers Bartholomew born in 1626 would have made Helena 51 and Symon born in 1629 would have made her 54. Highly unlikely. I believe the Gamaliel born in 1623 was the grandson of Adam and Helena not the parents. I found a birth entry of a Gamaliel born in 1593 listed with a child named Gamaliel. Helena dies in 1629. There is no other wife of Adam near that time. People have claimed they found the marriage date of Helena and Adam but that is actually the baptismal date of their son Radalphus who was born in 1595. I believe they also had a son born in 1594 named Adam and the eldest son born in 1593 was named Gamaliel. That Gamaliel had a son named Gamaliel and he was born in 1623. He sailed to Dorchester Mass in 1635 at the age of 12 aboard the Elizabeth and Ann and settled in Dorchester Mass and later moved to Lancaster Mass. His home was burned down in the Lancaster Indian wars and he moved back to Dorchester and was burred in Dorchester. His death record shows a Gamaliel Beaman who was listed as Gamaliel Beaman Junior. it listed as 1678 his death date. That's why I believe his father was the Gamaliel born in 1593. I am a direct descendant of the Gamaliel born in 1623. I'm trying to connect his father. I know Gamaliel Jr was born in Biddulph Stafordhire England. Adam I believe was born in Shropshire England. Adam and Helena are burred in the St Mary Magdalene Churchyard in Quatford Shropshire England. Any help would be appreciated. Any info about his wiles name or marriage records would be helpful too. I live in Salt Lake City Utah.

According to Anderson, Great Migration Series, the origins of Gamaliel Beamon are unknown. He arrived on the Elizabeth & Ann in 1635, first resided in Dorchester, removed to Lancaster in 1661 and Dorchester again in 1675.

GAMALIELL BEOMONT, age 12, {born about 1623} 8th May 1635, embarqued on the ship Elizabeth & Ann to be transported to New England. He had a certificate of conformity to the Church of England and was not a subsidy man.[1]

At the time of his death the Beamans were so impoverished that the tax rates of Gamaliel, Sr., Gamaliel, Jr., John and Thomas were listed in the Dorchester records as "desperate debts".

Biography

Gamaliel came to Dorchester, Massachusetts in 1635 on the Elizabeth & Ann at the age of 12. No other person of that surname was on that ship. They removed to Lancaster, arriving 23 May 1659. He signed the covenant as one of the 55 original proprietors on 31 May 1659. Their land was in "The Neck" in the acute angle between the parts of the main river, but not adjacent to the river.

On 20 February 1676 Indians burned all the houses and the church in the town and the settlers abandoned it. The Beamans went back to Dorchester and didn't return to Lancaster until about 1680. He died in 1707, age 84, and was buried in Lancaster, Worcester, Massachusetts (from "The Worcester Magazine", V. 2 p. 39) Other sources say he died 23 March 1678 in Dorchester, but History of Lancaster reports that date as the death date of Gamaliel, Jr.

This list does not jibe with the list published in "History of Lancaster Co.", included in the "History of Worcester County," which Miss Emily Beaman Wooden used in her book "The Beaman and Clark Genealogy, a History of the Descendants of Gamaliel Beaman and Sarah Clark of Dorchester and Lancaster, Massachusetts - 1901" For more information on the families, see her book. I will list the children in the order she has, but will not go into greater detail because I have no proof that Hannah belongs here. - From research by Mildred Sussell
