About General Alexander Ritter von Eiss
Austrian colonel; born at Piesling, Moravia, 1832. He entered the Austrian army at the age of fifteen, and took part in the campaigns of 1848, 1849, 1859, and 1866. The following orders were conferred upon him: the Order of Leopold, the Order of the Iron Crown, the Order of Elizabeth Theresa, and the Order of the Sword; and he also received two medals for meritorious military service. Von Eiss retired in 1896. He was an ardent Zionist.
