David Poe Sr. (1742-1816) was best known as the grandfather of American author and poet Edgar Allan Poe. He was also the father of Maria Poe Clemm (1790-1871), who would be Edgar Allan Poe's aunt and the mother of his first cousin/wife Virginia Poe.

David Poe Sr. was a soldier in the American Revolution and was known to George Washington. He also served as Assistant Deputy Quartermaster for the city of Baltimore. Although he was never a general, he was often called "General Poe".
