Gutiérrez Martínez ( Cumana , Venezuela , 27 as September as 1808 - Caracas , 16 as September as 1884 ) was a politician and Venezuelan journalist. After the death of Francisco Linares Alcántara , Jacinto Gutiérrez, then president of the High Federal Court, assumed the presidency jointly with Laureano Villanueva briefly between November 30 and December 15, 1878. The legislative branch appoints José Gregorio Valera and Gregorio Cedeñoas the first and second presidential appointee to govern until the corresponding elections. As president in charge, Gutiérrez decreed on December 9, 1878 the transfer of the remains of Francisco Linares Alcántara to the National Pantheon .
Son of José Gutiérrez and María Martínez raised in Cumaná later moving to Caracas. In November 1878 he was appointed President of Venezuela by the High Federal Court after the death of Francisco Linares Alcántara .
