Hermanus Nicolaas Wilhelmus Botha (Manie). Farmer and soldier. Born 14 October 1877, district of Frankfort, OFS. Farmed in the Vrede district; served in the Anglo-Boer War and in the First World War when he commanded the 4th South African Brigade with the rank of Brigadier-General. Member of the Union House of Assembly for Frankfort. Died 23 January 1950.

General Manie Botha who commanded the Harrismith Boers during the war and at the Battle of Paardeberg, is buried on Kalwerfontein, which now belongs to his son.
