GEORGE P. BAKER was born 1846 to James H. Baker and Susan (Bartow) Baker.
He married Asenath (Ross) Baker on December 1867 in Fairfield, Jefferson County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Benj. & Ruth (Corwin) Ross.
To this blessed marriage were born the following 12 children:

George P. Baker, and old resident of Jefferson County, died at his home near Baker Tues... Mr. Baker was an old soldier, a member of the Nineteenth Iowa Infantry, and for many years was postmaster at the Baker Post Office.

Battles of Elkins Ferry, Prairie D'Ann, Jenkin's Ferry. (Mar-May 64). Garrison Duty at Lewisburg and Little Rock until Feb 1865. Campaign against Mobile, Siege of Spanish Fort and Ft Blakely (Mar – Apr 65). Moved to Brazos,TX Jun 65) Thence to New Orleans for muster out Aug 1865.
