George Bean was born in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, in 1754, and died before 1820 in Franklin County, Tennessee. George was the first of Captain William Bean's sons to settle what later became known as "Bean Station" Tennessee. He and his brothers built the fort there. George was one of the famous Bean gunsmiths, as well as a goldsmith and he advertised in "The Knoxville Gazette" in 1792 that he "carried on a goldsmith and jewelers business a this home near Bean's Station." <ref> Clan MacBean in North America, Volume II, Fifth Edition, Revised 1993, by Joseph S. Bean, page 342 </ref> George made his residence in the Watauga Settlement, which was in Cherokee Indian territory, but became part of Washington county, in the State of North Carolina, and eventually Franklin county, Tennessee. During the American Revolutionary War, George served with the Watauga Rifleman company, under the command of Colonel Sevier <ref> SS : NC ROSTER OF SOLDIERS, PG.479 </ref> George is honored for his patriotic service by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, as Ancestor #A135092. DAR records indicate that George died circa 1817. Application for membership in the DAR has been made by descendants of his son, Jacob M. Bean, who married Nancy Ann Bowling. George's first wife was Jane (Hazard?) who died before 1800, probably in Grainger County, Tennessee. <ref> Clan MacBean in North America, Volume II, Fifth Edition, Revised 1993, by Joseph S. • Jesse Bean, born 1776, in Virginia or possibly Washington County, Tennessee, died March 22, 1854, married Mary Elizabeth Kuykendall and December 21, 1805, father of nine children. <ref> Clan MacBean in NorthAmerica, Volume II, Fifth Edition, Revised 1993, by Joseph S. Bean, page 342 </ref>
  • George Bean, Jr. born about 1780, in married Peggy Ashert, July 10 1798. <ref> http://www.larkcom.us/ancestry/history/1258.cfm </ref> (Clan MacBean has the date of their marriage as 1796)
  • Hazard Bean, born circa 1782; married Nancy Howard, 25 November 1805.<ref> http://www.larkcom.us/ancestry/history/1258.cfm </ref>
  • Mark Bean, born May 15, 1796, died March 1831,<ref> http://www.larkcom.us/ancestry/history/1258.cfm </ref> in Franklin County, Tennesee. <ref> Clan MacBean in North America, Volume II, Fifth Edition, Revised1993, by Joseph S. Bean, page 342 </ref> On February 11, 1800, George married Prudence (Windham) Cope, born 1783, in Washington County, Tennessee, sister of Reuben Windham of Rutherford County, Tennessee. It is not known when George moved to Rutherford and Franklin Counties, but it was probably after his marriage to Prudence Cope. <ref> Clan MacBean in North America, Volume II, Fifth Edition, Revised 1993, by Joseph S. Bean, page 342 </ref>

Children of George Bean and Prudence Cope are:

  • Edmund I. Bean, born about 1801; married Elizabeth Whitford, 4 June 1828, Franklin County, Alabama; born 12 August 1808, Ohio; died 30 April 1837.
  • Amanda Bean, born about 1815, Grainger County, Tennessee; married Hance E. Reeves, before 1833; born about 1812, Tennessee.
  • Jacob M. Bean, born about 1817, Franklin County, Tennessee; died 6 July 1883, Denton, Denton County, Texas; married Nancy Ann Bowling, 11 May 1840, Franklin County, Tennessee; born 19 May 1826; died 21 June 1883. Both buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, Denton County, Texas. In the 1820 Census of Franklin County, "Prudy Bean" is found living with her daughter, Amanda, in the household of her son-in-law, Hance Reeves. George, Sr. is not listed and from this, we assume that he died prior to 1820. <ref> Clan MacBean in North America, Volume II, Fifth Edition, Revised 1993, by Joseph S. Bean, page 342 </ref>
