G. Edgar Carns, 80, of Ligonier, died Thursday evening, May 19, 2005, in Excela Health Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born June 23, 1924, in Ligonier Township, a son of the late Lemon and Catharine Heiple Carns. Prior to retirement in 1987, he had been employed as a truck driver by St. Clair Supply, in Greensburg, and prior to that by Latrobe Lumber. He was a member and former deacon of Covenant Presbyterian Church. He was also a 25-year member of Ligonier Lodge #331 F&AM, a 40-year member of the Oak Grove Civic Center, the Tall Cedars of Lebanon #77 and the Fort Ligonier Chapter of the N.C.H.A. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Alma Wanda Shrader Carns; a daughter, Mrs. Michael (Juanita) McElroy, of Mt. Pleasant; three sons, James A. (and his wife, Susan) Carns, of Ligonier, Glenn P. Carns, of St. Clair Shores, Mich., and Ralph E. Carns, of Latrobe; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lillian Ayers, of Connellsville, and Gladys Stillwagon, of Latrobe. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Edna Madill and Loucetta Shirey; and three brothers, Harry, Clyde and Louis Carns. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the J. PAUL McCRACKEN FUNERAL CHAPEL INC., 144 E. Main St., Ligonier, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Robert D. Cummings officiating. Interment will follow in Ligonier Valley Cemetery. Ligonier Lodge #331 F&AM will hold services at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorial contributions to Ligonier Valley Meals on Wheels in Edgar's memory.
